LJK MODULAR A modular, heavy-duty backpack with external frame, designed for the Finnish Armed Forces in 2008. Capacity approx. 80 l. The modular LJK is designed to meet the needs of the armed forces for a modern military backpack. The characteristics and details are well thought out according to the needs of the 21st century without compromising durability and reliability in extremely heavy military use. The backpack can be customized to your needs with separate pockets and numerous attachment points. There's not much left of the old LJK backpack, except for the name, external frame design and a construction that can withstand pretty much anything. The compartments and structure of the entire backpack have been completely redesigned. The end result is more practical than before and considerably more versatile. The modular LJK has also proved to be a functional and reliable carrier when used by the Finnish armed forces and the Finnish border guard. A traditional backpack with external frame is at its best with a heavy load, but is also suitable for lighter trips. The external tube frame ensures air circulation between the pocket itself and the user's back, significantly reducing the heat load. Although anatomical backpacks have taken over some grass in the backpack market, there are still situations where nothing is better than an external frame backpack. Compartments The upper compartment of the bag (dimensions about 50 x 35 x 25 cm) is closed by attaching the opening of the drawstring, which is secured with a waterproof protective collar that also allows overpackaging. The opening is first covered with a attached straps and is then covered with a generous flap that is secured with buckle closures. The straps are long enough to wear, for example, a sleeping bag or mat under the flap. In addition to the buckles on the straps, there are spare metal buckles under the valve in the event of a worst case scenario. The top and lower compartments of the bag are separated by an intermediate shot that can open, allowing the whole bag to be changed to one large compartment if desired. The side compartments are removable and can be attached to the sides or back of the backpack at the necessary height. They can also be completely omitted if desired. The bags are attached to the backpack with MOLLE girders used in military equipment. It is a very simple, durable and reliable attachment method. OTHER ANCHORAGES There is a generous number of fastening loops on top of the valve and in the main compartment. This makes it possible to secure even large loads (such as the beloved Sissi tent) on or under the valve by means of detachable tires. The loops on the inside of the flap are perfect for attaching a sleeping mat. Especially a military-style tent mattress can be attached to this by means of the elastic bands. There are several belt loops on the sides and back of the backpack that can be attached to various essentials with detachable straps. The backpack comes with four two-piece buckles that can be moved freely between the backpack's attachment points. By default, they are used to strengthen the attachment of the side boxes. There is a lot of MOLLE webbing on top of the flap, on the sides, back and bottom of the bag and in the lower compartment for attaching additional pockets. You can also easily tie supplies to the girth using detachable straps. The lower corners of the bag have open pockets to attach long devices, e.g. an axe handle, to the side of the backpack. The lower corners of the shoulder straps have loops that serve as attachment points for small objects, such as water bottles. SUPPORT SYSTEM The frame of the support system is the strong aluminium tube frame of the LJK model. Unlike civilian backpacks, it has no upper bend because the bend easily sits in the head's way when it is necessary to move on rough terrain. Furthermore, the frame is reinforced with additional support blocks. The shoulder straps and waistband are firmly padded and anatomically shaped. In addition, the lower back is supported by a separate thick pillow. The buckle of the hip belt is a special plastic buckle that can be pulled in both directions and can be opened by pressing on the middle. The nodded chest strap provides extra comfort and support when wearing. This backpack is designed to carry extremely heavy loads, just as its military predecessors have been since the early 1980s. With the roll top at the top, the zipper at the bottom and a drawstring distributor on the inside, you can use the main pocket in any way you want. By opening the distributor, the main pocket turns into a huge hollow space, allowing you to pack very large and long items. The zipper at the bottom provides quick access to all the gear you need most during the day, while the roll top provides weatherproof protection for most of your gear. The lower zippered compartment features elastic compression straps on the inside and four small mesh pockets to organize your gear. A zippered pocket on the inside of the lid provides secure storage for your wallet, keys, travel documents and phone. The roll closure, the floating lid and the compression straps on the side offer a wide range of adaptability to the volume of the backpack. Modularity With PALS straps on the lap belt, sides, lid and bottom of the backpack, you can attach extra pockets and equipment. This system offers numerous options to customize the package to your specific needs. Not only for pouches, the PALS band can also be used for attaching utility straps, shock cord, carbine hooks etc. The lap belt can be removed from the frame for use as a stand-alone equipment belt. With suitable bags attached to them, you can use them instead of or in combination with a small day pack. HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE CARRYING SYSTEM When carrying heavy backpacks over long distances, it is extremely important that your backpack fits just right. The length adjustable lap belt and shoulder belt can be moved both up and down the frame to be suitable for users with a length of 160-200 cm. By opening the distributor, the main pocket is changed into a large hollow space. Berghaus MMPS Crusader FA stands for front access. As part of the MMPS family, it shares the same modules and offers the same flexibility. Front access allows the operator to quickly pull equipment out of the lower section without having to remove other equipment stored on top. Border controls A classic from 1989, known in Finnish as the Rajapartio, originally designed for the Finnish border guard. An internal tubular aluminium frame helps to carry unwieldy and heavy loads. What is special is that the Rajapartio backpack has attachment points for a rifle on the outside. Originally designed to carry an assault rifle, the attachment points can also be used very well to attach, for example, a camera tripod or other long special supplies. Compartments The upper main compartment (dimensions approximately 45 x 35 x 22 cm) is closed by attaching the opening of the drawstring, which is secured with a waterproof protective collar that also allows overpackaging. The opening is covered with a large flap that is secured with straps. The generous length of the straps offers plenty of space under the flap to overpack. In the flap is a large, open pouch. When the valve is closed, the opening of the bag is facing upwards and closes so that the contents do not fall. Against the back in the bag is a pocket the size of the entire back for the supporting frame of the backpack. The compartment is also ideal for carrying, for example, a water bag or other flat stuff. The lower compartment of the bag (dimensions about 15 x 35 x 20 cm) is closed with a two-way zipper and fastened with the same straps used to close the flap of the backpack itself. There are attachment points for detachable straps on top of the flap. Large essentials that otherwise do not fit in the backpack can be fastened on top of the flap. The side compartment on the right is tunnel-shaped and there is a mounting point above for a detachable belt. For example, it can easily hold an axe. SUPPORT SYSTEM The wide, anatomically shaped, sturdy shoulder straps and the well-padded hip belt ensure supported and comfortable wearing. The buckle of the hip belt can be detached very quickly with one hand. A very valuable function in a possible emergency. BACKPACK 339
The cave-like, easy-to-pack bag and the wearing comfort of an external steel frame make the 339 a great choice for longer trips. A classic model from the 1950s, only the materials have been renewed over the years but the design has remained the same. Compartments The main compartment is closed by tightening the opening with drawstring which is covered with a flap that can be fastened with straps. The straps are long enough to, for example, attach a coiled sleeping mat or blanket under the flap. If necessary, additional detachable tyres can be used to extend the tyres. The contents of the bag can also be accessed quickly via the small side zipper on the right side of the opening. Special is that on the sides of the bag there are strings that can be used to tighten it to make the bag firm with less stuff in it, the adjustment range is about 10 cm. Conveniently, you can pack extra supplies behind the side cords, for example a camping axe. The side pockets are ideal for packing large thermos bottles and other cumbersome, long necessities. You can put lots of small necessities in the generous outdoor compartment for quick and easy access. SUPPORT SYSTEM The frame of the support device is the steel tube frame of the 339. The lower part of the frame is curved and forms a base on which the backpack can also be placed safely on sharp stony ground. The supporting carrying system, similar to backpacks with external frame, ensures comfort. The back length is adjustable steplessly for users of different lengths. Your upper back is against stretched mesh and your lower back in turn against a belt saddle: these prevent the bag itself from largely hitting your back, which makes for less sweaty conditions. The shoulder straps are wider than normal and padded, a chest strap with buckle gives extra support. The support point of the shoulder straps is located at the top of the frame. It is possible to adjust the center of gravity of the backpack even while walking by tightening and loosening the adjusting straps of the shoulder straps. MILITARY GRADE MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION The bags from the Keikka series are made to last. The carrier handles are made of a single length of 50 mm wide band that wraps around the bottom of the bag, sandwiched between two layers of 1000D Cordura. Stress points are reinforced with double stitching and seams are finished with binding tape to prevent fraying. All carrier buckps are made of steel and are likely to last longer than the rest of the bag. Most of the materials we use for our commercial production are the same ones we use in equipment for the Finnish Armed Forces and other defence and security customers. Our most commonly used fabric in load carriers is extremely wear-resistant 1000D Cordura, according to FDF specifications, with polyurethane coating on the inside. The webbing and edge band we use are, again according to the FDF specifications, strong polyester band in different widths and thicknesses for different applications. Our green and M05 camouflage materials and accessories meet the strict FDF specifications for NIR reflection levels as they should be, as the same materials are used in official military equipment. PROPER RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION We manufacture the vast majority of our products ourselves in our own factories in Karstula, Finland and Tartu, Estonia. Product development and special production phases such as laser cutting and metalworking take place in our main facility in Finland, the cutting and sewing of textiles takes place both in Finland and in Estonia. Here at Savotta we do not dream of low labour costs, but we work constantly hard to keep the production in our own hands! Our goal was to eliminate all problems with existing combat belts. One of the biggest problems with combat belts is that it is difficult to align the upper and lower belts, especially under pressure. It can take multiple attempts to get a correct and comfortable fit, wasting valuable time. The Magnetix Battle Belt uses a patent-pending magnetic alignment system to ensure a perfect fit every time. The inside of the lid is equipped with strips loop for attaching accessories with a hook back. The main compartment is a hollow space with two mesh pockets, one at each end, to help organize smaller items. The external side compartment measures 35 x 23 x 5 cm and is designed for quick access and organization of smaller items and A4 documents. The back wall features two flat mesh pouches and a D-ring and two webbing tabs to secure valuables with a teat cord or buckles. The inside of the front wall is equipped with a loop for attachment of accessories with a hook back. The flat external pouches with Velcro closure are 24 x 20 cm in size and fit on A5 documents and similar smaller objects. Two 10 x 15 cm loop fields on the side and end of the bag accept most name bands and a number of other identification data. Each D-ring can also be used to confirm name tags. Due to the length of the carrying brackets, the bag remains well at a comfortable carrying height and a good control is possible. Each end is equipped with a handle for comfortable lifting during transport. Six steel D-rings are used to attach the included adjustable shoulder strap, which offer different orientations to suit your personal taste. The D-rings are also the fastening points for the optional padded shoulder straps. MODULAR AND CUSTOMIZABLE The loop strips in the main compartment and side compartment cover are suitable for various hook-to-loop fastenable accessories, pockets and organizers. This allows you to customize your bag to your preferences, or build it into a specialized toolbox for whatever work you need it. The foam filling with closed cells on the inside of the zippered lid and the bottom of the bag can be easily removed, replaced or reinforced. This allows the end user to easily adjust the bag with extra padding or plastic inserts if that extra level of protection or padding is required. The Keikka series bags can use an optional (separately available), padded clickable backpack harness. While carrying the backpack, the foam filling with closed cells on the inside of the lid provides a basic level of comfort against your back, even if you carry annoying mess in the bag. When a backpack with a bag like this should be as uncomfortable as possible, let's face it - this will never be as comfortable as a real backpack. Instead of building our bags with unergonomic, too long handles that also serve as shoulder straps, we've decided to make this a separate option for those who really need it, so we can build each carrying option in the right way for the intended feature. MILITARY GRADE MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION The bags from the Keikka series are made to last. The carrier handles are made of a single length of 50 mm wide band that wraps around the bottom of the bag, sandwiched between two layers of 1000D Cordura. Stress points are reinforced with double stitching and seams are finished with binding tape to prevent fraying. All carrier buckps are made of steel and are likely to last longer than the rest of the bag. Most of the materials we use for our commercial production are the same ones we use in equipment for the Finnish Armed Forces and other defence and security customers. Our most commonly used fabric in load carriers is extremely wear-resistant 1000D Cordura, according to FDF specifications, with polyurethane coating on the inside. The webbing and edge band we use are, again according to the FDF specifications, strong polyester band in different widths and thicknesses for different applications. Our green and M05 camouflage materials and accessories meet the strict FDF specifications for NIR reflection levels as they should be, as the same materials are used in official military equipment. PROPER RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION We manufacture the vast majority of our products ourselves in our own factories in Karstula, Finland and Tartu, Estonia. Product development and special production phases such as laser cutting and metalworking take place in our main facility in Finland, the cutting and sewing of textiles takes place both in Finland and in Estonia. Here at Savotta we do not dream of low labour costs, but we work constantly hard to keep the production in our own hands! LEARN FINNISH WITH SAVOTTA In Finland we have something like "keikka", like at a gig (concert), business trip or burglary. For a boulder case you need a bag, a bag of the right size with handles and shoulder strap, preferably with some basic pockets for organization. And it must be strong enough to carry a heavy burden. The Jääkäri M is an improved model of the Light Border Patrol backpack, originally designed for the Finnish Border Patrol. The sleek design offers unhindered movement in tight spaces and difficult terrain. The PALS fastener offers many options for fitting extra pockets and equipment on the outside of the backpack. An internal plastic frame blade gives the backpack stiffness, while the compression straps help you tie your load up to a tight package. A full-length side zip provides quick access to smaller items stowed in the main compartment. SUPPORT SYSTEM The Jääkäri M has an internal frame of plastic plate, giving it the necessary stiffness to stay upright when loaded with clumsy and bulky equipment. Both the shoulder harness and the lap belt are tightly filled with foam with closed cells. The shoulder harness is S-shaped and has a detachable chest strap. The forward-pulling lap belt is also easy to put on under load. The buckle on the side provides quick and easy opening when needed. The lap belt is equipped with an additional cushion for lower back support. CONNECTION OF FINNISH BORDER GUARD In the early 1990s, a compact Savotta walking backpack, simply called the "608", was chosen as the starting point for the design of a new day backpack for the Finnish Border Guard. This then changed to the 'Kevyt Rajapartio' or Lightweight Border Patrol backpack, a very modern backpack for its time: narrow design for mobility, side zipper, compression belts and rifle fastening. Most striking was a very sturdy carrying system and an aluminum reinforced frame - something you rarely see on packaging of its size. This venerable design was chosen in 2013 as the basis for the development of what would become the Jääkäri M, the first in the modern range of Savotta packs with a construction and functionality of military quality.
