These teams operate in an environment where there are many penetrating traumas, and most (two-thirds) of avoidable deaths in the operational environment result from bleeding at the extremities. Currently, there are many fake turnstiles (counterfelt Turnstiles) on the market. These Turnstiles are often indistinguishable from the real ones, but when used or do not build up enough circumferential pressure so that injured people continue to lose blood. The C-A-T Tourniquet must be wrapped in plastic in the Benelux market and provided with printed instructions with the logo and quality mark of Special Medics.
